FAQs

WHAT IS THE RESERVATION PROCESS LIKE?

After you have received availability of different yachts in the area you have chosen and after you have decided on a particular yacht, you maybe are ready to book her for your exact dates.
You announce this to your Charter Broker and the charter broker “locks” your dates until the paperwork is done.
All you need is to say to your agent who is the person or company that will be on the Agreement and give him an address.
The Charter Broker drafts an Agreement that is sent to you for review, so you study the terms and conditions of the contract.
If you agree, then the agent will ask you to sign the agreement and send it back to him/her via email. Same Agreement goes to the Owner of the yacht for signature.
The Charter company signs this Agreement as well and sends you a fully executed contract.
After you receive a FULLY EXECUTED CONTRACT then you initialize your deposit for your charter.
This is the first phase for your reservation, a very easy process. The charter broker also makes original documents which are sent to you via COURIER and you can keep into your files.
When the final payment is made for your cruise, according to your contract, the whole reservation process is totally completed.

SHOULD I PURCHASE AN ADDITIONAL INSURANCE FOR MY CHARTER?

The yacht has insurance for the passengers and the crew in case of any unforeseen events, mostly for any accidents.
Some clients wish to purchase additional insurance for their trip, for their flight, their luggage, their health during the charter, and any possibility of delays or cancellations of any kind.
We suggest that the clients buy additional insurance; it is always good to have.
You can ask your Charter Broker at Absolute Yachting about this matter and he/she will help you to purchase the right insurance for your cruise.

HOW ABOUT IF MY YACHT BREAKS DOWN?

This is an additional reason why you have to work with a Charter Broker! It is a very important reason. Yachts, like cars and any other means of transportation may break down… it is rare but has happened in the yachting industry before.
No panic. Your Charter Broker knows how to solve your problem and he/she is here to insure your holidays are affected the less possible by this incident. What he/she does, is find you a replacement, as she/he knows instantly the availability of the yachts in the area.  The replacement is done, in case the break down is serious and the problem cannot be fixed.
On the opposite side, if you had booked a yacht with one owner directly… the owner does NOT know availability of other commercial vessels and that would cause you many troubles.
Trust your Charter Broker, who is on your side from the day you contact him to the completion of your charter. He is there for you, to listen to all your needs and gives you solutions to all your concerns. It is worth working with a specialist, a Yacht Charter Broker!

HOW DO I TIP MY CREW?

It is customary to tip the crew at the end of the charter. Crew members are hard working professionals that most of the times they work double shifts in order to accommodate the needs of the charterers.
There was always a question mark when the time of tipping the crew came. Our advice is that the tip is at your discretion but can vary from the 5%-15 % of the total charter fee, excluding the running expenses of the cruise.  This is the usual tipping amount, but again it is totally to the clients’ discretion.

HOW ABOUT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL MY CRUISE?

The charter agreement will document what happens in various circumstances if the charter is cancelled. Cancellation insurance is available to protect your funds should unforeseen circumstances prevent or cut short your charter. Ask our charter professional about these options as you complete your charter selection.

CAN I CONTROL THE RUNNING EXPENSES DURING MY CHARTER? CAN I CHOOSE MY MEALS AND DRINKS ON BOARD?

Usually the running expenses of a charter are defined as follows:

Running expenses:  (fuel, food, bar, dockage, etc) are paid for, in advance in the form of an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). This sum is estimated at the 30% of the total charter fee of the boat.
The captain keeps all the receipts for the expenses and at the end of the charter he will do the final financial settlement. If during the charter the costs are beyond the APA, then additional funds will be required for the outstanding bills. If there is any remaining credit, the charterer will receive remaining balance.

Gratuity is extra, and is not included in the price of the yacht.
It is customary to tip your crew at the end of your charter. The amount is totally at your discretion, with  5-15% of the charter fee (excluding running expenses and taxes) being usual.

If you want to manage in a way your APA, you can work with this with your Charter Broker. First, you can plan a route that is specific, and so you control your fuel consumption in a way, and then, you can guide your chef to work on a specific menu, so you do not excide the APA given prior to your charter.

When you make a plan for your route and for your menu, you have somehow the control of your expenses and everything is more under control.

At the moment you book your charter, you will receive a charter questionnaire sent by your Broker.
This questionnaire that you have to fill in, has many questions about your food and drink preferences. Also it has questions about food allergies and medical conditions that your chef should be aware of.
The menu for your cruise is totally customized, according to your filled in and handed in charter questionnaire.
